- Cadetship at the Mercury Newspaper in Hobart, Australia, completed within two years.
- Assigned as newspaper’s representative to Queenstown, a mining centre on Tasmanian West Coast.
- Return to the newspaper’s Hobart newsroom as a sub-editor.
- Appointment as motoring editor for 2½ years.
- Winner of the Keith Welsh Award as Tasmania’s best journalist in 1983.
- Editor of The Sunday Tasmanian newspaper (weekly) for nine months.
- Established business, Newsdesk Media Services, and worked as a consultant with Corporate Communications with several significant industrial clients.
- Consultancy with Australian Newsprint Mills to publish its employee and company newspaper, the Newsprint Log; duties included interviewing and reporting, sub-editing, page layout, photography and working with printers to finished edition.
- Editor on contract for The Southern Star, a suburban weekly newspaper; led development of full-colour offset printing through parent company.
- Sub-editor for Cairns Post for three months prior to taking up position as Editor of The Tablelander Newspaper ( country weekly) in Far North Queensland, Australia.
- Media Manager for three years for the major motor sport event, Targa Tasmania, in Hobart, Australia; duties included writing and editing of quality event publications.
- Editorial consultant (part-time) for the Western Australian Government Department of Education.
- Sub-editor (sports desk) for the West Australian Newspaper, Perth, Australia.
