LETTERS TO HOME

I am right back where I started from

Promises are made to be broken, and I admit to being masterly at it. After promising to post something every week way back in 2007, it is only now that I have made any changes to the site.

Much, of course, has happened in the meantime. I am back in Australia, working on the same property at Taggerty, after Canada basically said: "We ain't got any work here for you. Go home!"

And so it was that in mid-January 2007 I landed back in Melbourne, having driven with Charlene across the North American continent and back again, started and failed to finish the Boston-Montreal-Montreal 1200, and started and finished the Mid-West 24-Hour Race.

Then I spent around three months sitting around, applying for jobs, and trying to find a way through the Canadian immigration maze. A complication was the leave-the-country-or-else visa conditions imposed on my re-entry to Canada from the US after returning from the east. That's another story, however.

I left quite a bit of stuff in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, including Charlene and my computer (which had almost seen out its days with malfunctioning CD and floppy and various other bits. I did organise getting back to Taggerty, and it is only now that I have access to another computer with broadband. WooHoo!

So I will try to be diligent, to write of some of my experiences (including my 2007 trip to Europe with Charlene), and post the article with pictures on the website.

Anyway, bookmark this page and come back for regular visits from time to time to check out what's new. I promise... errr...ummm... I will do my best to have something here every week!

At the of Lake Mtn last summer
The top of Lake Mountain is aorund 1700 metres above sea level and when I returned from Canada last Australian summer, I thought I should prove I had some semblence of fitness left (despite the added weight) by climbing it from home in Taggerty.

At the gymnase prior to the start of PBP 2007
At the gymnasium where Paris-Brest-Paris 2007 started. Unfortunately, we lasted only until one-third of the way through the event because of the bad weather and the fact we weren't having fun anymore.

In my tent at Maldon for Easter 2007
I spent Easter with two "refugees" from Canada, Melissa Friesen and Scott Gater at Maldon, and a very pleasant time it was, too.
